Most pegging positions advice reads like someone rearranged a Kama Sutra list and called it a day. Here’s what they leave out: pegging isn’t PIV with a costume change. The angles are different. What makes someone comfortable enough to actually relax - that’s different. I’ve tried every position on this list with Ben, some multiple times before we figured out what we were doing wrong. These are the pegging positions that actually work, sorted by experience level, with honest notes on what each one feels like from both sides.
How Do I Choose a Pegging Position?
Five things matter:
- Prostate angle. Some positions aim directly at the P-spot. Others miss entirely. The prostate stimulation guide covers anatomy if you need it.
- Depth control. Whoever needs to control depth should be the one who can move freely.
- Giver comfort. If I’m fighting my own body to hold a position, I can’t focus on reading Ben’s. My comfort is your pleasure - remember that.
- Intimacy level. Face-to-face changes things. You’ll know whether you want eye contact or not.
- Height difference. Ben’s got six inches on me. I’ll flag where it matters.
What Are the Best Pegging Positions for Beginners?
Start with positions where the receiver controls the pace or the giver has full stability. Forgiveness is the word - you want a position that doesn’t punish small mistakes.
Missionary
Receiver on his back, hips elevated on a pillow or wedge, legs up. This is where I tell every couple to start, and nobody has come back to argue with me.
The prostate angle is almost automatic with elevated hips. You can see each other’s faces. I control the depth and the rhythm. And there’s something about this position - the eye contact, the vulnerability of him on his back looking up at me while I’m between his legs - that turns a physical act into something that sits in your chest for a while afterward.
- Prostate angle: Excellent (direct with hip elevation)
- Depth control: Giver
- Effort: Low to moderate
- Intimacy: High
Edge-of-Bed Missionary
Same idea, but the receiver lies at the edge of the bed, hips at the mattress line. Giver stands.
This solved our height difference overnight. Standing gives me leverage I don’t get kneeling, and the bed supports his full weight. If your knees or thighs burn out in regular missionary, this is the fix. Less intimate - more distance between you - but the stability trade-off is worth it for longer sessions.
- Prostate angle: Very good
- Depth control: Giver
- Effort: Low (giver stands, receiver lies)
- Intimacy: Moderate
Spooning
Both on your sides, giver behind. The gentlest entry angle on this list.
If the receiver is nervous - not jitters but I might tap out nervous - start here. Everything is slow. You can wrap an arm around him, talk into his neck. The pace stays gentle by default because the range of motion is limited. I use spooning as a warm-up now, but our first few times, it was the whole session. No shame in that.
- Prostate angle: Moderate (depends on curve)
- Depth control: Shared
- Effort: Very low
- Intimacy: High
What’s the Most Comfortable Position for Pegging?
Spooning, then prone bone, then pillow-assisted missionary. If someone’s bracing themselves or holding an awkward angle, their body tightens everywhere - and tight is the exact opposite of what you want here. Ben kept saying doggy felt “fine” while his shoulders were locked up to his ears. We switched to prone bone and within a minute his whole body softened. Good lube matters, but it doesn’t compensate for a position that has someone clenched up.
Which Pegging Position Is Best for Prostate Stimulation?
Missionary with elevated hips, or receiver on top. Both aim the dildo’s curve toward the front wall where the prostate sits - tip pressing forward, toward the belly button. Face-down positions tend to angle away unless the dildo has an aggressive curve.
Pair the position with a dildo that has a noticeable upward curve. Position plus curve plus hip elevation - that’s the combination where Ben stops being able to form sentences.
What Pegging Positions Work for Couples With a Height Difference?
Edge-of-bed positions. Receiver on the bed, giver standing - the bed height does the adjusting. Pillow stacking fine-tunes from there.
The Chairman works because chair height is fixed. Receiver on top eliminates the problem entirely. I tried standing once and Ben’s six-inch advantage made the geometry ambitious. We laughed. We moved on.
Best Intermediate Pegging Positions
Doggy Style
Receiver on all fours, giver kneeling behind. The position everyone thinks of first and underestimates completely.
Harder for pegging than for PIV. Without biological feedback, thrust alignment takes practice. Start shallow, adjust up, and have him tell you when you’ve found it. Once you do find the right line, though, the depth access is serious, and there’s a raw directness to this position that shifts the energy in the room. You’ll feel it.
- Prostate angle: Moderate (requires angle adjustment)
- Depth control: Giver
- Effort: Moderate
- Intimacy: Lower (no eye contact)
Prone Bone
Receiver face-down, flat, legs together or slightly apart. Giver lies on top or kneels straddling.
Consistent prostate contact because the dildo is pressed forward by default. Less thrusting, more grinding - short, focused movements that keep pressure exactly where it needs to be. I can whisper into the back of Ben’s neck in this position, feel his breathing change under me, barely move at all while his whole body responds. Deceptively intense.
- Prostate angle: Good to excellent
- Depth control: Giver
- Effort: Low to moderate
- Intimacy: Moderate-high (full body contact)
The Chairman
Receiver sits in a sturdy chair, giver stands facing him or sits straddling his lap.
Underrated. Face-to-face, hands free, nobody’s knees complaining. The chair back gives the receiver something to hold, and the giver can stand or lower herself at her own pace. If your harness setup has been causing thigh strain, try this one.
- Prostate angle: Moderate
- Depth control: Shared
- Effort: Low
- Intimacy: High
What Are Some Advanced Pegging Positions to Try?
Receiver on Top (Cowboy)
Receiver straddles the giver and lowers himself down. He controls everything - depth, angle, rhythm.
This flips the dynamic in a way that caught me off guard. I’m on my back, he’s above me, and even though I’m the one wearing the strap-on, the power has shifted. He decides when to sink deeper. He decides the pace. Watching someone take that control after months of trusting you to lead - something about that reversal made my pulse do things I wasn’t expecting.
- Prostate angle: Excellent (receiver self-adjusts)
- Depth control: Receiver
- Effort: Moderate-high (receiver’s thighs)
- Intimacy: High
Standing
Both standing, receiver bent forward over a counter or table. For when you’re already warmed up and the bedroom feels too far away.
Alignment is fussy and height matters here more than anywhere. Our success rate is about fifty-fifty, but when it works there’s a spontaneous urgency you don’t get from planned positions. Keep it short.
- Prostate angle: Variable
- Depth control: Giver
- Effort: High
- Intimacy: Moderate
Amazon
Giver on her back with knees drawn up, receiver squats down facing her. The prostate angle is aggressive and the physical demand is real.
File this under “either becomes a favorite or a funny story.” The receiver needs thigh stamina and confidence with depth. Not a Tuesday night position. More of a we’ve been doing this a while and I want to see your face when I find a new gear position.
- Prostate angle: Intense
- Depth control: Receiver
- Effort: High
- Intimacy: High
What’s the Best Pegging Position for the Person Wearing the Strap-On?
Edge-of-bed missionary and the Chairman. Both let the giver stand or sit naturally without strain. Prone bone is forgiving too - small movements, minimal fatigue.
If the giver burns out, the session ends. Or worse - it becomes something you dread. A well-fitted harness matters, but position selection matters more. I’ve had sessions where everything was perfect for Ben but my lower back was done after five minutes. Now I pick positions I can sustain, and everything got better for both of us.

How to Make Any Pegging Position Work Better
- Pillows and wedges change angles more than position changes do. A firm pillow under the hips in missionary turns a good prostate angle into a great one.
- Warm up in an easy position first. Start with spooning or missionary, then transition once the body is relaxed. Jumping into doggy cold is a common mistake.
- Reapply lube between positions. Every time you reposition, add more. Three seconds prevents the one thing that ruins everything.
- Talk during transitions. Switching positions is where people tense up. A hand on his hip, a “ready?” - whatever keeps the thread intact. The couples guide has more on communicating mid-session.

The best pegging positions are the ones where both of you can relax enough to actually be present - where you stop thinking about logistics and start paying attention to each other. Try three from this list, keep what works, ditch what doesn’t.
